Privacy Policy

Bookmark Rescue is local-first. The developer does not receive your bookmark library or scan report.

Data processed

When you start a scan, Bookmark Rescue reads bookmark titles, URLs, and folder structure in the scope you selected. It records availability details such as HTTP status, redirect destination, classification, reason, and scan time.

Purpose and local storage

This data is used only for bookmark recovery and your report. The scan queue, progress, results, and settings are stored locally in Chrome extension storage so interrupted scans can resume. Bookmark Rescue has no account or cloud synchronization.

Network requests

After you press Start and grant optional website access, the extension contacts each selected bookmarked address to check availability. Those websites receive the normal information associated with an HTTP request, including the requested URL and network address.

The extension does not automatically send your bookmark library to the Internet Archive. For a result classified as likely unavailable, you may explicitly click “Check Internet Archive.” Only then is that individual URL sent to the Internet Archive availability service, which operates under its own terms and privacy practices.

What the extension does not do

Version 0.1.0 does not automatically delete, edit, move, or replace bookmarks. It has no analytics, advertising, fingerprinting, remote configuration, or remotely hosted executable code. It does not sell user data or use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or purposes unrelated to bookmark recovery.

Retention and deletion

Scan data remains locally until you start a replacement scan, use “Clear local data,” clear the extension's data through Chrome, or remove the extension. Clearing local data removes the saved queue and report without changing bookmarks. Exported CSV or JSON reports remain wherever you choose to save them.

Security

Website access is requested only when you start scanning. Network requests use HTTPS where the bookmarked address or archive service supports it. No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure.

Changes

If a future version changes data handling, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before that version is distributed.
