Chat Light Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 18, 2026. Applies to Chat Light 0.1.0.

Purpose and operator

Chat Light is developed by extenup. Contact: extenup@gmail.com.

The extension lets you manually enable and restore a rendering mode for older messages already loaded in the current ChatGPT conversation. It changes the display behavior of existing page elements. It does not provide a separate chat service or a copy of your conversation.

Information processed locally

When you open the extension's controls or choose Check status, Chat Light checks the active tab's URL to determine whether it is a supported ChatGPT conversation. On a supported page, it also checks for the conversation container, counts loaded message elements, and reads its own current mode status. The URL can contain a conversation identifier. The extension does not request or read your browser's history database.

After you choose Enable, the extension inspects the conversation page's element structure, message-element count and order, computed styles, element dimensions, and whether elements remain connected to the page. It observes page changes so it can manage or restore its rendering adjustments. It also checks the current URL, viewport size, focused element, and text-selection node boundaries to avoid applying its rendering mode to the newest, focused, selected, or changing message elements.

These operations use page structure and selection boundaries; the extension does not extract message text, selected words, prompt drafts, attachment contents, account details, passwords, cookies, or authentication tokens. It does not read or write your clipboard. Copying messages remains an operation of ChatGPT and your browser.

The extension's controls exchange temporary mode status, turn counts, and fixed status or error identifiers with its own code inside your browser. None of this information is sent to the developer or to an external service.

Permissions and your control

Chat Light requests no persistent website host permission and does not activate itself on page load. Chrome's temporary activeTab access can remain available during navigation within the same website. Separately, Chat Light stops its rendering mode when the conversation URL changes and requires you to enable it again for another conversation.

You can choose Restore to remove the extension's rendering adjustments. A normal page reload also clears the page's injected extension state. The mode also stops when the viewport or conversation width changes, the conversation page is replaced, or an incompatible state is detected.

Storage, network, and data use

Chat Light has no persistent extension storage, transcript cache, account system, analytics, advertising, tracking, remote configuration, or remotely hosted executable code. Its code makes no network requests. It does not collect information for the developer, sell data, send page data to another service, or synchronize information between devices.

Temporary page references, dimensions, URL comparisons, and mode status are held in browser memory while the extension operates. Restore stops the active rendering observers and removes the extension's adjustments. Reloading or closing the page clears that page's injected state. After disabling or uninstalling the extension, reload an already-open affected page to clear any remaining display changes. There is no saved extension transcript or personal-data database to delete.

The local information described above is used only to provide this manual rendering feature. Chat Light complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It does not use or transfer information for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, profiling, or purposes unrelated to its single function.

Other services and voluntary contact

ChatGPT continues to handle your conversations, account, and requests under OpenAI's own terms and privacy policy. Chat Light does not change that service's data handling or delete conversations. Chrome and the Chrome Web Store operate under Google's policies. Opening the public privacy-policy website makes an ordinary request to its hosting provider; this is separate from the extension, which does not fetch the policy automatically.

If you email the developer, your email provider and the developer receive the information you choose to send. Support correspondence is separate from the extension's local processing. Do not send passwords, access tokens, or private conversation content when a general description is sufficient.

Changes

If a future version changes the information handled, its purpose, permissions, storage, or recipients, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated to describe that version.
